5 Signs Your Website Is Costing You Customers
Most business owners built their website once, a while ago, and haven't looked at it since. Customers look at it every single day. Here's what they're noticing — and what to do about it.
It doesn't say what you do in five seconds
When someone lands on your site — usually from a Google search or an Instagram bio link — they decide whether to stay in about the time it takes to read one sentence. If your homepage opens with a slogan instead of plain English about what you do and who it's for, you're asking people to work for information they expect to get for free.
There's no obvious way to contact or book you
If someone has to hunt for your phone number, scroll to the footer, or figure out which of three vague buttons actually leads to a form, most won't bother. They'll go back to Google and call the next name on the list instead.
It's not built for a phone
Most people finding you are on their phone, often on the move, sometimes on patchy mobile data. If text is tiny, buttons are hard to tap, or the page takes ten seconds to load, you've lost them before they've seen what you offer.
There's nothing that builds trust
People are choosing between you and a handful of competitors who look, on paper, much the same. No reviews, no real photos of your work, no sign of an active social account or Google Business Profile makes it hard to tell a genuine local business from a placeholder page.
It hasn't been touched in a while
An old copyright year, a seasonal offer from last Christmas still pinned to the homepage, a broken link in the menu — small things, but they all say the same thing to a visitor: nobody's minding this. That's not the impression you want to give someone deciding whether to trust you with their money.
